Power Cord
When choosing a power cord for your vacuum cleaner there are a few considerations, the main consideration is about safety. You should not use a cord that isn't rated for at least the maximum draw of your motor.
In the case of the motor I choose it was rated for about 8 amps at 230 volts, so I choose a 13 amp / 230 volt cable.
Cores
Most vacuum cleaners are not earthed and do not require a three core power cord, however it is important that you properly earth your vacuum cleaner if it does indeed have any exposed conductive surfaces to protect yourself.
Unless you are buying from a specialist most of the power cords you can buy come with three cores. If you are unsure about electrical safety you should consult an engineer.
Length
The typical cord length in most vacuum cleaners is about 5 meters long, which is normally adequate but often leaves you a little short, my preference was to buy a 10 meter cord however there are implications to longer cables for which you should consult an engineer.
Aesthetics
The main consideration many will have over the power cord are length and appearance, it is possible to buy many different types of power cord online you can even buy fabric coated cord which comes with different colours and patterns to give your design the retro look.
