Some feedback as a user: I didn't even realize there was a special dropdown in /recent until reading this issue. So this may not be a feature that many people would be aware of.
Would it be too much clutter to put it as one of main sort modes, along with /hot, /recent, /random, and /top?

Thanks for the feedback! I don't use the recent filter much which might be a sign I also don't notice it a lot and thus a zap feed would easily get missed in there. But this should be discussed in a separate issue imo.

I think so, yes. Space is already tight, especially on mobile:
I also think that the main sort modes are the main sort modes because there is no overlap between hot, recent, random and top whereas a zap feed would include a feed of recent zaps so it should be under /recent imo.1
Footnotes
Maybe we could also have zaps as a category in top at some point. ↩
Given recent changes, I think we should base the Zap Feed on the live comments1 model.
It will then show a list of zaps with the amount + item but not the zapper.
So it should be able to fetch zaps every n seconds, along with the necessary fields for ItemInfo.
The only concerning part is the fact that there could be a lot of zaps for the same item, and I don’t think we’d ever want the same item 10 times in the feed.
So this has to be connected with #2398 in some way. Maybe live reordering the feed.
If this seems too much, I’d recommend waiting for the live sats PR.
Footnotes
Live comments lacks a proper documentation, how it works mutated a lot in a couple of months. This will be addressed soon.
While live comments is actually as straightforward as it can be, you might still scratch your head on some parts. I hope I can answer every question you might have on it, if you want to give this a try. ↩

Happy to take a shot at mocking this up if no one is on it?

Got it, I'll think I'll sit tight and monitor progress for now
