Gas: inline the log10Ratio and exp10Fixed series multiplies (#306) - #352
Conversation
log10Ratio sums seven fixed atanh terms, the last four in native arithmetic; exp10Fixed writes each mulDivFixed out in place. Outputs are bit-identical to main, checked against verbatim main copies. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… multiplies z a multiple of 2^128 borrows in z^2; three x each borrow in the final multiply and the ln 10 Horner step, found by modular search. Pins that step one never borrows and that the series at 2^-16 is the last step's constant. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

WalkthroughThe production library replaces the loop-based ChangesFixed-Point Series Implementations
Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 4 (Complex) | ~45 minutes Change: Refactor Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to The production change inlines the fixed-point arithmetic and is reported to give identical outputs with lower gas. One added test does not reach the boundary cases it describes, which leaves a minor coverage gap. The PR is mergeable with that small test fix as a follow-up. Pre-merge checks |

log10Ratio keeps main's Log10RatioRelativeSumTooSmall guard and z in each branch, with the written-out series after it. The scan log is the union of both sides sorted by timestamp. The SeriesMain oracle's log10Ratio is main's at 7a9aee5. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Keeps the inlined log10Ratio and exp10Fixed series. The inline comments drop what the NatSpec already states (eighth term, binary digits, nine Horner terms). The scan log is the union of both sides. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
File-level constants replace every long literal in the inlined series assembly. Deployed bytecode of all 131 artifacts is unchanged. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Keeps #357's relative-branch cascade and this branch's unrolled series. audit/mutation-test-scans.json is the union of both sides. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…s into the #336 copy The #336 reference keeps maximizeFull and takes the unrolled series, so its equivalence tests compare the scaling alone. The fixed seven terms differ from #336's run-to-zero loop for z far above the documented 5.1e-4 (e.g. log10Ratio(13, 2, false)), which no caller reaches. 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Fix the inputs: this test never reaches the z² split boundaries it documents.
For the input pair (1e75 + d, 1e75), log10Ratio computes z = d * 1e50 / (2e75 + d). With d = u * 1e25, z is about u / 2, not u * 1e25 + v. The bound u <= 4.99e21 therefore gives z <= ~2.5e21. That is below POW_FIXED_SQRT_ONE = 1e25.
As a result, the split always has u == 0, and only the v * v path runs. The boundary cases v == 0 and v == 1e25 - 1 with a nonzero u are never compared between the Solidity copy and the assembly. This contradicts the docstring on Line 109.
checkZ in LibDecimalFloatImplementation.seriesMainEquivalence.t.sol already solves for d from a target z. Use the same construction here.

Keeps #429's range guards in front of the unrolled assembly series: log10Ratio's Log10RatioOutOfRange checks (sum wrap / b of zero, z past LOG10_RATIO_Z_MAX) and exp10Fixed's Exp10FixedOutOfRange. The series stay written out inline, so main's private mulDivFixedUnguarded is unused and dropped. The z^2 bound comment moves to 5.7e-7 for the wider z. SeriesMain is refreshed to main's guarded copies at 9d843e7, the plain Solidity copy gets the same guards, and the equivalence tests cover z up to and past LOG10_RATIO_Z_MAX, expecting the exact named revert outside the guarded domain. The scan log is the jq union of both sides. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Refs #306.
Writes out the fixed-point series multiplies in place, so the precision work from #309 costs less.
log10Ratio: the atanh loop becomes 7 fixed terms in assembly. z^2 is squared by splitting z at 1e25: for z = u·1e25 + v, floor(z^2 / 1e50) = u^2 + floor((2uv·1e25 + v^2) / 1e50), all in one word. The second and third terms aremulDivFixedwritten out in place. From the fourth, term * zSquaredfits a word, so it uses nativediv(mul(…), 1e50). The eighth term floors to zero (z^16 < 1e-50), as the loop found before.exp10Fixed: all 26mulDivFixedcalls are written out in place (15 binary-digit steps, 10 Horner steps and the final multiply).Outputs are bit-identical to main over each function's documented domain, so every bound and bc-pinned value is unchanged.
LibDecimalFloatImplementation.seriesMainEquivalence.t.solchecks this against verbatim copies of main'slog10Ratioandexp10Fixed(test/lib/LibDecimalFloatImplementationSeriesMain.sol). Forlog10Ratiothat domain is z ≤ 5.1e-4, the only zlog10Unroundedpasses. Far above it (e.g.log10Ratio(13, 2, false), z = 11/15) the fixed seven terms differ from main's run-to-zero loop. No caller reaches those inputs.Gas
