AC.Rogue: Camera sway/tilt when FPS is unlocked

I applied the patch fix and it is working but the camera sway is having some problems like treble and shaking. I switched off all other fixes other than fps unlocker.

I ended up stopping using AC.PatchFix, when on ship the viewpoint camera seems undampened. Fighting sea battles was really hard with the camera see-sawing around, one second pointing at the waves, the next at the sky.

I was only using the FPS unlocker function

@MonPhantom, @Dragon-32 You can help me narrow this down without any new build. Open AC.Rogue.PatchFix.ini, find Target under [FPS], and change the value. The mod picks up changes live, so you can edit it while sailing around and see the camera react right away.

Try these and tell me which ones make the ship camera see-saw:

1. Target=0 (uncapped -- this should reproduce it)
2. Target=120
3. Target=60

Also mention your monitor's refresh rate, and whether your FPS was steady or jumping around (Steam overlay / MangoHud / RTSS counter helps). Video with an FPS counter still very welcome.

Why this helps: uncapped uses a completely different frame-timing path in the engine than a fixed cap. Which values sway and which don't tells me exactly where to patch.

iirc, I'd been using Target=144 with a 144Hz monitor. FPS was pretty solidly at the cap (RTX 5070 @ 1440)

I'll see if I can get into a fight in the North Atlantic, currently in the river map which is calm, so I can re-enable and try different values.

Video isn't straightforward for me. Capturing I guess would be OK with Nvidia's tools but uploading would be the problem. I've got this far in life without a Google account.

i deleted the game tbh after it didnt save my progression. i played 10 hours straight but the thing is the camera pov is like shaking and feels like when the camera man hands are shaking while taking the video and on ship it was worse. sorry i cant provide video because i deleted the game. i have a benq monitor which is 144 hz

@Dragon-32 There are some options:

1. Create dummy Proton/Google/Microsoft/Yandex/... account (better with very random username and email), as all of these services provide some free storage
2. Upload video there
3. Share link
4. Delete created account after some time, like week or so (optional, but don't abuse them, especially Proton)

I'm sorry but I won't be uploading videos or testing this any further. Reading MonPhantom's more recent description of their issues makes me realise my problem was very different to theirs, I thought they were similar when I read the OP.

I've got the game running without a FPS lock, using the hexedited .exe from Nexus. That was what I used this mod for.

I really don't want to go back to using this just for testing.

I do wonder if my problems were because I was using the SSAA (Supersampling Anti-Aliasing) mod too. There are some problems with the game's Bink video playback when using that mod.

Anyway.

I encountered the same issues with the patch/FPS cap removal. I tried lowering it from unlimited to 120 to 60, but once I removed the cap, recapping it didn't fix it and the only thing that worked was removing the patch files from the plugins folder altogether

The following things were affected:
Naval camera was all over the place, and turning would send the camera tumbling wildly, except in travel speed mode
Cut scene camera was also all over the place and at a skewed angle
Waves were sometimes ridiculously sized and distorted
Elevators in modern sequences were broken and would stop-start-stop-start. The elevator in the final server room sequence just didn't work at all.

It's challenging to get a video of this because it happens unpredictably - sometimes it will work as normal for hours and then suddenly everything will go askew

I was going to play ac rogue again after years, and i thought these problems were game design, there's camera swaying, and even camera flips in cutscenes, and when running, below are some examples of the game intro, the videos had to be very compressed to fit into github 10mb limit. Game settings are max settings 2560x1080 100hz, no vsync, every setting on .ini on the default ones like fps Target=0, i will also put the log if its useful, the recordings are 30fps because i used the windows bar recording but the game runs at higher fps like my monitor. Tested and disabling only the fps unlock the game works perfectly with the other patches, ultrawide fov etc.

Hello! no i don't have this issue, fps unlock works perfectly on my end, i have a 100hz monitor and the fps reaches 150+ with it unlocked, i only have the mentioned issues when it's unlocked. Also i'm not using any mods of any kind, the game is vanilla from steam, i only use your fix.
