Inspired by QuantarcticaR , since many users already have the datasets downloaded from Quantarctica and QGreenland, Polartoolkit should be able to access these datasets. These QGIS packages have done lots of work for quality assurance and also include many datasets that are available to download via https otherwise. There is lots of overlap, so I will need to think about where to prioritize fetching datasets from. One advantage of Polartoolkit is the preprocessing, and low-resolution pre-processed grids, making loading the datasets faster.
To use the QGIS packages, users manually download a zip file, then upzip this, and just open it in QGIS. We can either add code to search for these unzipped folders, ask users to move them to the .cache/pooch/polartoolkit folder, or add a fetch function to download the zip.
