Build fails due to deprecated jcenter() repository - Replace with mavenCentral()

Issue Description

The video_thumbnail package fails to build on newer Android development environments due to the use of the deprecated jcenter() repository, which was shut down by JetBrains.

Error Details

When running flutter build apk, the build fails with the this error:

Root Cause

The issue is in the android/build.gradle file where jcenter() is used in the repositories block:

Hitting this too on 0.5.6 (pulled in transitively by video_editor). One detail
worth adding: on Gradle 9 this is no longer a resolution problem that you could
work around with a repository mirror — jcenter() is gone from the Gradle API, so
the build dies while evaluating the plugin's project, before any dependency is
resolved:

Could not find method jcenter() for arguments [] on repository container
of type org.gradle.api.internal.artifacts.dsl.DefaultRepositoryHandler

Env: Gradle wrapper 9.1.0, AGP 8.9.1, Flutter 3.35.5. Every Android build fails,
debug and release alike.

Also worth noting for anyone reading this thread: the second block is

rootProject.allprojects {
    repositories {
        google()
        jcenter()
    }
}

That is not scoped to this plugin — it reaches up and mutates the repositories of
every project in the consuming app. So a single transitive dependency on
video_thumbnail takes down the whole build, and no amount of configuration on
the app side can opt out of it.

#190 fixes exactly this in one line and has been open since Aug 2025 — landing it
would unblock everyone in this thread. (Same request in #128, from 2022.)

Workaround until then

Copy the package into your repo, change both jcenter() occurrences to
mavenCentral(), and point at it with dependency_overrides:

  video_thumbnail:
    path: third_party/video_thumbnail

android/build.gradle is the only file that needs to change — the Dart and Java
sources build unmodified. Editing the copy in ~/.pub-cache instead appears to
work but is invisible to CI and to every other developer, and it survives
flutter clean, which makes the failure very hard to attribute when it comes back
on a fresh machine.
