Indeed, voice chat is a common feature, so much so that there's been earlier talks about this too 😄

This is usually done by taking the audio input from the user's device, compressing it with a codec like opus, and then transmitting it. These are orthogonal to netfox's feature set imo.

Recording is supported by Godot, for compression you can use https://github.com/goatchurchprime/two-voip-godot-4, and for transmitting data, regular RPCs are fine. Alternatively, you could use netfox's commands to keep it light(er).

I'll keep this issue open, and close it later with a PR that adds an example!

The main gotchas are putting the incoming sata straight into the stream's buffer ( instead of your own queue ), and making sure the stream's mixing rate matches the project's mixing rate.

Not the most confident in this answer but I felt like adding that Steamworks has it's own VOIP implementation as well! If you plan on using Steam for P2P networking solutions or just for general ease of use you may find Steam Voice to be beneficial! I am uncertain as to which is higher quality (I'm guessing Steam Voice may be simplified for data transmission purposes) but I digress.

Also since you're looking into Coop/multiplayer games with voice chat I might also recommend Steam Audio if you're trying to do proximity based realistic voice chat. I cant attest for how up to date the Godot port is, but I plan on tinkering with it myself in the coming weeks! When I've used it in other engines it allowed dynamic sound rendering which was really cool and gave the proximity voice chat another level [allowing you to define things as having certain materials for audio occlusion etc].
