feat(windows-rocm): add verified RDNA 2 Torch and HIP CTranslate2 speech - #3712
Native Windows RDNA 2 setup could discover an RX 6700 XT yet fail real CTranslate2 inference with hipErrorInvalidImage. Select a hash-pinned build containing the actual GPU kernels, verify kernel execution, and isolate ROCm 10 faster-whisper inference so CPU selection and memory fallback do not abort the backend with conflicting OpenMP runtimes.
Fixes#3770. Refs #2468; this does not close the broader ROCm engine-parity work.

Scope and source-policy review
#3770 now explicitly tracks native Torch speech and Whisper integration alongside HIP CT2, RDNA 2 precision safety, and the inventory/readiness boundary needed to prevent the reproduced Torch import overlap and broken-ASR preset selection. The BF16 guards follow the failure class documented in #2372. This keeps the working user-requested integration together without closing the broader #2468 engine-parity umbrella or claiming every optional engine is qualified.
The RDNA 2 installer proposes an explicit source-policy exception for stable.repo.amd.com/rocm/whl-next/ and the hash-pinned expanded-target CT2 mirror under dutch2005/VoiceStudio. The original maintainer artifact metadata matches the mirror's archive SHA-256 430fbf0aa7c4cddcaf17e432c18f937b1f80f3c73353b89f90e528f5b8125827 and size 194,373,107 bytes. The official CT2 4.8.4 archive is different and lacks the required gfx1031 target; substituting it regresses the tested path. These are provisioning-only requests after explicit Windows ROCm selection; readiness and inference remain offline. CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md and the install guide record the same proposed exception.
Upstream maintainer explicitly accepts the additional RDNA 2 provisioning sources before merge. Integration/testing on the submitter's machine does not establish this approval.
Changes
Keep Windows ROCm explicitly opt-in. RDNA 2 gfx1030, gfx1031, gfx1032 select matching native ROCm 10 device packages. The existing ROCm 7.2.1/Torch 2.9.1/CT2 4.8.2 recipe for newer GPUs remains intact.
RDNA 2 uses expanded-target HIP CT2 4.8.4 from maintainer source 9a7a074fe09521795f4172ecc42e4516700b3819. The public dependency mirror preserves the original artifact bytes and MIT licence; archive, wheel and DLL are pinned separately. It requires no token and avoids expiring Actions URLs. Maintainer review of the added download source remains appropriate.
Execute a CT2 GPU float32/float16 round trip during bounded readiness checks. GPU discovery/model loading alone is insufficient. Refuse ambiguous hardware and cross-family package repair before downloading or modifying packages.
Automatically isolate normal faster-whisper on Windows ROCm 10, retaining the exact selected model, VAD, decode/request options, timestamps, metadata, actual device/precision, GPU OOM-to-CPU fallback, unload, crash recovery and cleanup of discarded instances. The inference worker does not import Torch. Other platforms and the ROCm 7 path keep their existing execution behavior.
Verify and advertise matched Windows HIP PyTorch Whisper independently of CT2, with actual pipeline device/precision evidence. English-only checkpoints accept explicit English transcription without passing unsupported multilingual generation options. Performance inventory stays metadata-only in the API. Before persisting changed engine selections, presets validate real runtime readiness in bounded offline owned children; automatic ASR display uses the same honest selection, preserving PyTorch fallback when CT2 cannot load. Normal model load-time validation remains active.
Serialize per-owner ASR proxy publication/release, retire unloaded delegates, and prevent old completions from overwriting a replacement worker's evidence. Keep unrelated owners independent. Separate the Electron ABI guard constant so its optimized wrong-interpreter test can execute without importing Electron launch dependencies.
Refuse WhisperX's unsafe in-process CT2 path on ROCm 10 before imports or cached-state reuse. Pure Torch CPU alignment/pyannote remain separate; GPU MIOpen paths remain unverified. Update the guide, README and changelog.
Add 81 concise function docstrings across 24 Python files. The fresh CodeRabbit review of efa16bbe6 reports 100.00% docstring coverage, above its 80% threshold, and passes the title and updated scope checks.
Compile all 24 edited Python files and compare ASTs after stripping docstrings: no Python behavior, signature or assertion changes. Independent review confirmed the documentation-only delta and source-policy wording.
Rebase onto upstream main at 5bfbda368 (including the newly merged Arch package): ten linear PR commits with no merge commits. The resulting tree exactly matches an independently computed integration of the pre-rebase tree with current main. The focused CPU-capture fix is the final commit.
Post-rebase local validation: 157 passed in the native ROCm/cp312 environment, offline with a fresh empty HF cache. Selection: the documented 124-test cohort below plus tests/test_windows_rocm_rdna2.py and tests/test_changelog_style.py. The rebased head requires fresh CI; earlier hardware results remain historical qualification of the unchanged runtime logic.
Fresh review: CPU capture and deterministic inventory
Greptile found that ROCm 10 CPU capture could select faster-whisper from package presence even when its CT2 DLL could not import. Availability now reuses the bounded offline owned-child transport with a direct import-only mode. That mode initializes DLL search, imports faster-whisper and checks its constructor without loading a model, probing a GPU, consulting the ASR registry or recursively invoking availability. Failed or unproven imports preserve PyTorch capture fallback; successful imports still require the existing HIP admission check for GPU use.
Six new regression cases failed before the fix; the import/capture coverage passes afterward. Existing transport tests retain crash/timeout failure and kill/reap coverage. Actual child success/failure tests supplement selection mocks.
A native ROCm 10 CPU admission check with Torch already loaded selected faster-whisper successfully, without importing CT2/faster-whisper into the parent or invoking GPU verification. This is model-free readiness, separate from the earlier speech API results.
Fix the copied package_available binding in the inventory test fixture. With sherpa_onnx hidden from host discovery, the existing test fails before the fixture correction and all 23 file tests pass afterward.
Final selected local cohort: 187 passed in each of native ROCm/cp312 and default/cp311 environments, offline with a fresh empty cache. This extends the 157 selection with tests/test_windows_rocm_cpu_capture_readiness.py, tests/test_windows_rocm_asr_import_child.py, tests/test_windows_rocm_asr_worker.py and tests/test_windows_rocm_asr_isolation.py. It does not classify the separately investigated 410-test cohort's failures.
After the final main refresh, the same cohort passes again: 191 passed in native ROCm/cp312 including the newly upstream tests/test_aur_package.py and tests/test_contact_emails.py; 187 passed in default/cp311 with the unchanged focused selection.
Hardware validation
RX 6700 XT / gfx1031, Windows 11 x64 build 26300, AMD driver 32.0.21045.20006, Python 3.12.13. No HSA override, global SDK change or driver replacement.
Fresh source setup through scripts/setup-api.mjs downloaded the public pinned dependency and installed the matched Torch/audio/vision/ROCm device stack. A second setup reused and reverified it successfully.
Real Torch GPU arithmetic and CT2 GPU casts pass. Local speech smoke passes with already-cached faster-whisper small.en and a 3.53-second synthetic WAV, offline.
Actual VoiceStudio /transcribe and /v1/audio/transcriptions: both HTTP 200 in GPU-auto and explicit CPU modes; all four responses have identical transcript SHA-256 56c5282d5b96e4bed806bbef8a4709cf6be3ff51c55c5fc6a4e45efc140b8863.
Worker-reported actual execution is GPU cuda/float16 or CPU cpu/int8_float32, respectively. Loaded worker DLL inspection finds only libiomp5md.dll, no Torch libraries. Both API processes unload their workers and exit 0 without forced termination.
Earlier in-process CPU HTTP tests reproducibly aborted with OpenMP error 15 / exit 3. These failures were retained and the same requests pass after isolation. No KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK workaround is used.
Native PyTorch Whisper (tiny.en, local test snapshot) now passes both transcription APIs on GPU/fp16 and explicit CPU/fp32. All four responses match the same transcript hash above; observed model parameters are on cuda:0 or cpu, respectively; both processes exit 0. Before the fixes, explicit English options failed on tiny.en and a CPU startup import overlap could report installed Transformers symbols as missing.
Native OmniVoice Torch TTS: two normal 16-step GPU speech requests and a separate 16-step synthetic-reference cloning request return valid 24 kHz WAVs, with cuda:0/fp16 model weights and clean process shutdown. Reference and output are generic synthetic test speech, unrelated to any saved personal voice. GPU-generated speech transcribes back to its test sentence; speaker similarity was not scored.
CPU Torch TTS completes two four-step speech requests with CPU/fp32 weights and four Torch threads; output transcribes correctly and shutdown exits 0. A 16-step CPU run exceeded the five-minute test-client deadline (also with four threads), so full-quality CPU TTS is not certified by this run. The reduced-step warm CPU request took about 90 seconds for three seconds of audio; timings are short smoke observations, not a controlled benchmark.
Loaded AMD DLL inspection in the successful TTS and CT2 worker processes places HIP/hipBLAS/rocBLAS/COMGR in the pinned test environment, rather than the older system HIP SDK. TTS output uses the normal synthetic-marking endpoint; licence acknowledgements reproduce the user's existing current decisions in disposable profiles.
Model-free preset checks pass for native faster-whisper, PyTorch Whisper and OmniVoice while the API parent already has Torch and Transformers imported. A controlled failed-CT2 exclusion rejects that engine and resolves automatic selection to working PyTorch Whisper; parent GPU arithmetic still passes, with no parent CT2 import.
Tests and limits
Final focused Windows ROCm, performance inventory, routing/evidence, setup, sidecar/decode and changelog cohort: 504 passed, 1 skipped in the native ROCm/cp312 environment; 505 passed in the existing default/cp311 environment. Existing deprecation warnings remain.
Electron ROCm bootstrap/opt-in tests: 11 passed across two test files.
New real-transport regressions use controlled child models to test model/options preservation, forbidden child Torch imports, CPU override, OOM fallback, native crash recovery, device reporting and lifecycle cleanup. These supplement the real hardware HTTP checks.
The first pushed Linux CI head had 12,979 Python tests pass and one fail: the fake inference child did not inherit its parent's Windows/ROCm test overrides, so its OOM-fallback test took the generic CPU path. The child now explicitly selects the controlled isolation policy. Exact failing simulated-Linux behavior was reproduced before the fix; simulated-Linux and native-Windows variants each pass nine transport tests afterward.
Independent code review completed before push. Baseline functional CI was green at historical head b478b8baaeb7baa9b82cec24eaa0b23cefceea42, including the required backend/frontend gate, Python/Electron suites, desktop UI checks and OS smokes. Greptile passed that head; CodeRabbit's functional inline findings were resolved. Its remaining summary warnings are addressed by this follow-up, with upstream source acceptance explicitly still pending. Fresh CI and review are required for the rebased head.
Final preset-readiness, selection-race, profile/settings/startup and structure cohort: 124 passed in each of the native ROCm/cp312 and default/cp311 environments, offline with an empty test HF cache. Failed runtime checks cannot persist an unusable engine; a newer manual engine/model/device/tier choice made during the check is preserved. The CPU-capture follow-up extends the small helpers to 124, 88 and 42 lines; the subsequent two-line CodeQL follow-up adds explanatory comments only.
Full Windows Python run before the final isolation change: 12,596 passed, 203 failed, 109 skipped, 9 xfailed, 33 errors. It is not a green full-suite claim or proof that every failure is pre-existing. The required Linux CI must validate the final head.
Hardware qualification is RX 6700 XT short-clip ASR, generic native Torch TTS and a synthetic-reference clone path. Radeon 890M, other RDNA 2 cards, packaged installers, WhisperX, long recordings, full-quality CPU TTS and optional engine sidecars are not certified by these checks. The 890M should use its detected existing recipe rather than forcing the RDNA 2 overlay.
No app version bump, application release or merge is included. The dependency prerelease is separate from VoiceStudio application releases.
Reproduce the exact 124-test selection
Run from the checkout root using the chosen environment's Python. The selection was run in both native ROCm/cp312 and default/cp311 environments on the d6f7383 functional changes, which are unchanged in the later comment/documentation commits. No -k or -m filter was used. The fresh cache path below replaces the original machine-local empty cache path.
Observed results: native ROCm/cp312 124 passed in 25.16s; default/cp311 124 passed in 36.14s. This is focused profile/readiness regression coverage; the actual GPU and speech API validations above were separate runs.

This change adds opt-in Windows ROCm support for RDNA 2 speech, including hash-pinned packages, GPU-kernel readiness checks, isolated faster-whisper inference, and offline runtime checks before saving preset changes. It targets missing gfx1031 kernels and OpenMP conflicts while preserving CPU transcription and fallback. Review the proposed package sources before merge; hardware validation is limited to the reported RX 6700 XT, and fresh CI results are pending.

Walkthrough
The change adds Windows ROCm 10 support for RDNA 2, including pinned packages, architecture and GPU-kernel checks, repair validation, and isolated Faster-Whisper execution. It also updates speech-engine compatibility and precision behavior, and adds offline readiness checks and selection safeguards for performance profiles.
Adds pinned package configurations for gfx1030, gfx1031, and gfx1032. Recipe loading detects supported GPU architectures and validates package sources, artifact paths, and SHA-256 pins. Setup text distinguishes proposed sources from approved sources and documents the ROCm recipes and qualification boundaries.
Repair safeguards and GPU verification backend/core/device_caps.py, backend/core/windows_rocm/{install,native,repair_selection,runtime,probe,smoke,verify,ct2_kernel}.py, backend/services/engine_evidence.py, tests/test_windows_rocm_{rdna2,repair_selection,install,failure_policy,import_exceptions,native_imports,sdk_integrity,verification,smoke_local,ct2_kernels}.py
Filters reported architectures to installed ROCm 10 kernels, validates repair selection before downloads, and updates SDK and DLL discovery. The probe rejects an RDNA 2 HSA override and requires a checked CTranslate2 GPU conversion result.
ROCm 10 isolated ASR backend/core/windows_rocm/{asr_isolation,asr_proxy,isolation_policy,pipelines}.py, backend/engines/_asr_sidecar/*, backend/services/{asr_backend,engine_evidence}.py, tests/test_windows_rocm_{asr_isolation,asr_worker,asr_cache,proxy_creation,proxy_evidence,proxy_retirement,whisperx_isolation,heavy_gates,cpu_capture_readiness,asr_import_child}.py
Adds a Faster-Whisper subprocess path with request validation, CPU/GPU selection, model loading, fallback reporting, and execution evidence. ROCm 10 WhisperX availability uses a compatibility check.

Explanation
The title uses conventional-commit style with a scope (windows-rocm) and states the main change: verified RDNA 2 Torch and HIP CTranslate2 speech support. The changeset adds RDNA 2 recipes, CT2 kernel verification, and isolated faster-whisper for this path, so the title matches the main change. The title does not include an issue reference, but the requirement allows the reference in the title or body, and the body has 'Fixes #3770'. The title therefore meets the stated requirement.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It has Summary, Changes, Type, Testing (as the 'Tests and limits' and 'Hardware validation' sections), and a Checklist. It links the issue (Fixes #3770) and records the changelog fragment and CLA-relevant items. Most required information is present. Two checklist items remain unchecked (rebased-head CI and maintainer approval), which the author states are pending. The description also includes a long, unformatted testing section that goes beyond the template, but this does not make it incomplete.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
[#3770] The reviewed change implements the RDNA 2 recipe, hash and path validation, fail-closed repair checks, and model-free CT2 GPU-kernel verification. It adds isolated ROCm 10 faster-whisper execution with CPU routing, OOM fallback, lifecycle cleanup, and execution evidence, plus native PyTorch Whisper and Torch speech support, BF16 guards, bounded offline readiness checks, fallback preservation, and documented WhisperX and hardware limits. The pending source-policy approval and rebased-head CI are administrative or validation gates, not unmet coding requirements.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changed files support [#3770] through provisioning, runtime isolation, readiness and selection safety, native Torch speech, BF16 protection, tests, and documentation. The Electron ABI split supports the Windows ROCm setup tests, and the fixture changes support regression coverage. No unrelated implementation or completion of the broader #2468 parity scope is demonstrated.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 100.00% which is sufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 132 functions across 68 files. (1 skipped: 1 unsupported.)
Full details: Cross-Platform Default Parity
Explanation
No un-gated cross-platform default divergence is introduced. Windows ROCm behavior is opt-in through OMNIVOICE_TORCH_VARIANT=rocm; without it, resolveTorchVariant() keeps the default variant and gpu_compatible() returns the unchanged compatibility tuple. Runtime isolation is also limited to Windows Torch +rocm10.; non-Windows paths return the existing in-process behavior. The added parity test covers Linux, macOS, and Windows without opt-in and expects unchanged defaults. RDNA 2 precision guards are hardware-safety fallbacks, not platform-only user features.
Full details: I18n Completeness (21 Locales)
Explanation
No changed Electron UI translation keys were introduced. The PR changes only Electron main-process runtime code, an ABI constant, and a test; the added host text is data passed into existing localized bootstrap.download_* messages, not a user-facing sentence. No hardcoded user-facing string bypasses i18n.
Full details: Backward Compatibility
Explanation
No backward-compatibility failure is introduced. The pull request changes no migration, project, voice, settings-store, preference-store, or model-manager files; existing preferences remain in DATA_DIR/prefs.json, and project storage remains unchanged. Performance changes select only complete cached models and readiness checks are download-free, while ASR continues to resolve installed snapshots through _local_model_source; no code forces engine reinstallation or model re-download.
Full details: Local-First Guarantee
Explanation
The PR still enables outbound downloads from stable.repo.amd.com and github.com/dutch2005/VoiceStudio in scripts/windows-rocm-recipe.json, and provision() downloads those artifacts in backend/core/windows_rocm/install.py:96-116. CLAUDE.md and .github/CONTRIBUTING.md classify these as a proposed exception that requires upstream maintainer acceptance before merge; the prior local-first failure therefore remains.
Resolution
Obtain explicit upstream maintainer acceptance and update both policy lists to mark these endpoints as sanctioned before merge, or remove the RDNA 2 endpoints and use only the approved sources. Keep the existing opt-in, hash-pinning, and artifact-validation checks.

Derive the ROCm 10 gate and SDK check from the recipe.
The gate at backend/core/device_caps.py:237 matches the exact torch string 2.13.0+rocm10.0.0. The SDK check at line 216 matches the exact 10.0.0. Both values duplicate scripts/windows-rocm-recipe.json. After a recipe bump to another torch string, the filter is skipped. build_arch_list then returns the compiled targets unfiltered, and arch_unsupported can accept a device whose kernel packages are absent. The current recipe matches, so this does not fail today.
Matching only the +rocm10. family does not fix it. _installed_rocm_arches still requires dist.version == version, so the device set would be empty and every RDNA 2 host would fail closed. Read the expected torch and SDK versions from the recipe with the existing loader in backend/core/windows_rocm/recipe.py, then use the same values in the gate and both comparisons.

Update the ROCm 10 gate and SDK-version check used by build_arch_list and
_installed_rocm_arches to derive their expected torch and SDK versions from
scripts/windows-rocm-recipe.json through the existing loader in

comparisons so the architecture filtering remains active after a recipe version
change.

Add verified Windows RDNA 2 HIP CT2 and safe ASR isolation
Add verified Windows RDNA 2 native Torch and HIP CTranslate2 speech
Nov 2, 2026
Race between _ensure_model() and the _rocm_asr_proxy check can send an isolated backend into the in-process path.
If unload() runs after _ensure_model() on line 1290 and before the check on line 1291, _unload_locked sets _rocm_asr_proxy to None. isolation_required() is still true, so the code skips transcribe_isolated and reaches self._model.transcribe with self._model as None. That raises AttributeError on a ROCm 10 host, and the in-process CT2 path is the one this PR isolates. Call transcribe_isolated unconditionally. It returns None only when isolation is not required, and it recreates the proxy otherwise.
Proposed fix

Reject unknown AMD architectures before repair.
A nonempty AMD inventory with a valid four-digit PCI ID outside _RDNA2_PCI_IDS makes detected_rdna2_arch() return None, so validate_repair_selection() accepts the host and retains the ROCm 7 default recipe. Because probe() checks package versions before GPU architecture, a repairable package failure can reach run_install() and change packages before the later unsupported-GPU check fails. Resolve every AMD PCI ID to an architecture, including the default recipe's supported devices, and reject IDs that resolve to neither set.

The source-policy item requires an upstream maintainer decision. @debpalash, please explicitly confirm acceptance of stable.repo.amd.com/rocm/whl-next/ and the pinned expanded-target CT2 mirror under dutch2005/VoiceStudio before merge. All policy documents and the unchecked PR approval item preserve that pending status. The mirror matches the original maintainer artifact; the different official archive does not contain the needed gfx1031 target. Provisioning remains opt-in and hashed; readiness/inference remain offline.

Confirm approval of both RDNA 2 artifact sources before merge.
The source policy requires explicit upstream maintainer acceptance for the AMD wheel source and the expanded-target CTranslate2 mirror. Integration tests do not establish that approval; record acceptance for both sources before merging this allowlist.

Before merging the allowlist entry shown in the diff, verify and record explicit
upstream maintainer acceptance for both the AMD wheel source and the
expanded-target CTranslate2 mirror; do not treat integration-test results as
evidence of that acceptance.

This remains pending upstream maintainer acceptance, as requested in the PR checklist and issuecomment-6581068667. Both the AMD index and expanded-target CT2 mirror are explicitly recorded as a proposed source-policy exception in CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md and the install guide. No upstream approval is inferred from integration tests. Leaving this thread open for explicit acceptance of both sources before merge.

Latest head da9f88c includes the fixed Greptile CPU-capture import/fallback finding and the inventory fixture binding correction. Both threads contain reproduction and post-fix test evidence. The source-policy acceptance thread remains open for the upstream maintainer; no approval is claimed.

Cache negative and timed-out readiness results too.
_query caches only ready=True results, and the timeout path at Line 97 returns None without caching. FasterWhisperBackend.is_available reaches isolated_asr_import_ready on every availability check. With a broken or hanging CT2 import, each check respawns a child and can block for up to _TIMEOUT (120 s). Cache failed and timed-out results under the same key, which already changes when packages or environment change, so a repair still invalidates it.

Update _query to cache both ready and failed readiness results under the
existing key, and cache timeout outcomes so repeated checks do not respawn a
child or wait through _TIMEOUT. Preserve the existing key-based invalidation
behavior and return contract for cached results.

Summary
Native Windows RDNA 2 setup could discover an RX 6700 XT yet fail real CTranslate2 inference with
hipErrorInvalidImage. Select a hash-pinned build containing the actual GPU kernels, verify kernel execution, and isolate ROCm 10 faster-whisper inference so CPU selection and memory fallback do not abort the backend with conflicting OpenMP runtimes.Fixes #3770. Refs #2468; this does not close the broader ROCm engine-parity work.
Type
Scope and source-policy review
#3770 now explicitly tracks native Torch speech and Whisper integration alongside HIP CT2, RDNA 2 precision safety, and the inventory/readiness boundary needed to prevent the reproduced Torch import overlap and broken-ASR preset selection. The BF16 guards follow the failure class documented in #2372. This keeps the working user-requested integration together without closing the broader #2468 engine-parity umbrella or claiming every optional engine is qualified.
The RDNA 2 installer proposes an explicit source-policy exception for
stable.repo.amd.com/rocm/whl-next/and the hash-pinned expanded-target CT2 mirror underdutch2005/VoiceStudio. The original maintainer artifact metadata matches the mirror's archive SHA-256430fbf0aa7c4cddcaf17e432c18f937b1f80f3c73353b89f90e528f5b8125827and size 194,373,107 bytes. The official CT2 4.8.4 archive is different and lacks the requiredgfx1031target; substituting it regresses the tested path. These are provisioning-only requests after explicit Windows ROCm selection; readiness and inference remain offline. CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md and the install guide record the same proposed exception.Changes

The public dependency mirror preserves the original artifact bytes and MIT licence; archive, wheel and DLL are pinned separately. It requires no token and avoids expiring Actions URLs. Maintainer review of the added download source remains appropriate.Review follow-up and rebase

The resulting tree exactly matches an independently computed integration of the pre-rebase tree with current main. The focused CPU-capture fix is the final commit.tests/test_windows_rocm_rdna2.pyandtests/test_changelog_style.py. The rebased head requires fresh CI; earlier hardware results remain historical qualification of the unchanged runtime logic.Fresh review: CPU capture and deterministic inventory
