New logo for consideration.

I have been using bgfx for a project I am currently working on. I would like to give back to the community in some way and wanted to propose an updated logo that I think better reflects the quality and technical excellence of bgfx as a whole. Part of my desire to work on them was that I would like to include a bgfx logo as one of the opening graphics to my game. The current logo felt a bit out of place. I tried out a few dozen fonts, including iconography, but this is the one that felt unique, clear, and with nice hum and balance.

Also consider colors used to be textile friendly print colors.

2 foreground (primary for logo, and secondary for see below) and 1 background color max.

Secondary colors:

In case I print t-shirts and send to contributors/sponsors/etc. color would signify their type of contribution to the project. 😃

In terms of the colours, sounds good. I think you could likely get away with any of those on black or white. Are you okay if I work with colours that are close to those but ever so slightly different, like nudging the blue a bit more towards a pastel cyan, etc.. I can do some variations.

I am on a deadline and then traveling, but my goal would be to wrap this up by early October. Does that work for you?

I still need to refine the weight of this, but I think there is a stronger relationship between the size of the bg and fx. In addition, I want to round out the corners. The other images should give a better sense of it in use. I think it looks pretty sharp. I would still stick to a more vibrant primary colour that is flexible, and keep the other colours black (or a grey) and white. Giving people the flexibility to tint the fx a custom colour could be a selling feature for having the logo shown before games load. That is the primary reason I approached you about the logo, as I want to showcase the tech upfront with the aim of spreading the word on how great it is.

Looks good, but it's "b" and "gfx" not "bg" and "fx" (background effects 😄 )

Yeah, for reference, @aleph1:

• bgfx = b gfx = branimir graphics
• bx = b x = branimir <cool letter for common library>
• bimg = b img = branimir images

But looks really neat already!

Understood. I still think this approach works, and it gives a lot of visual consistency to each of the component parts. I still want to fine-tune this, but I think it is getting quite close.

What about coloring the b? (reason I ask is because the cyan feels like an accent color, but in the case of bgfx and bimg, 75% of the letters are now "accented"; hence the proposed flip).

Actually anecdote... b is there just because when I was replacing some legacy graphics engine in AirMech there was gfx directory. So to not mix code, I added b prefix for new renderer. And then was ok, I don't have to think about naming anymore, just prefix everything with b. 😄

This would allow you to use the text on its own, or with the icons. I think it better visually explains what each component does.

Okay. Let me think on an approach that could work. I think the icon approach could work, and it would also be possible to have a similar approach for bnet. I realize bgfx is the one people are likely to see the most, especially in a game context if someone included the logo. The only reason I was avoiding anything like a gradient in the design is it's hard to embroider them effectively. With your application mostly being screen-based and possibly printed on an item, a gradient could be usable, but if you plan on embroidering anything it's better to keep the colours flat.
