Black screen after electron43 update to 43.7.0 (CachyOS)

Discord window renders fully black after updating electron43 to 43.7.0 on CachyOS. The window opens, title bar updates correctly (e.g. shows "(N) Discord | Friends" once loaded), arRPC starts, but the webContents surface itself stays solid black — no UI is ever visible.

Downgrading the system electron43 package from 43.7.0-1 back to 43.6.0-1 fixes the issue immediately, no other changes needed.

Steps to reproduce

1. On CachyOS/Arch with electron43 at 43.7.0-1, launch Equibop.
2. Window opens and the process runs (arRPC, renderer, gpu-process all present in ps), but the content area is entirely black.
3. --disable-gpu does not help.
4. Disabling custom themes / quickCSS does not help.
5. Downgrading electron43 to 43.6.0-1 (sudo pacman -U electron43-43.6.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst) and relaunching fixes it — full UI renders normally.

• Equibop: 3.3.0-3 (CachyOS repo package)

• OS: CachyOS Linux, kernel 7.2.4-3-cachyos
• Compositor: niri 26.04, Wayland
• GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (Navi 48, gfx1201)
• Mesa: 26.2.2-2, vulkan-radeon 26.2.2-2 (radv)
• XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=niri:GNOME, XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland

Notes

This may well be an upstream Electron/Chromium Wayland regression rather than something in Equibop's own code (Equibop links against the system electron43 package here rather than bundling its own), but filing here in case others hit the same black-screen-after-update symptom or in case a workaround/pin is needed on the Equibop side.

Having the same issue on EndeavourOS, and downgrading the electron 43 package using the cached prior version fixed it (sudo pacman -U file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg/electron43-43.6.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst).

Blank window here too after electron43 43.6.0-1 → 43.7.0-1 (Arch, niri, equibop-bin 3.3.0-3, which runs the system electron43). Here the title never changes from "Discord", and the renderer console shows Discord's startup throwing

TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'open')

at eG in libdiscore-wasm-fetch.*.js, the wasm-bindgen import that calls CacheStorage.open(). It's called from Discord's .module.wasm and gets null where a working load passes the CacheStorage. #app-mount stays empty.

Here the trigger was the compiled-WebAssembly cache in the profile, ~/.config/equibop/sessionData/Code Cache/wasm, where the entry for that .module.wasm was compiled by 43.6.0. Tested with Equibop and with a bare Electron app (a BrowserWindow on discord.com/app, no preload, no Equibop or Equicord, same user-agent), on copies of the same logged-in profile, each from a cold start:

• Equibop, electron43 43.7.0-1: blank, error above
• bare app, electron43 43.7.0-1: same error
• bare app, official Electron v43.7.0 from GitHub releases: same error
• bare app, electron43 43.6.0-1: loads to Friends
• bare app, electron43 43.7.0-1 with only Code Cache/wasm removed: loads to Friends

On 43.7.0 with a fresh, logged-out profile (Equibop and bare app), the login page loads normally.

Arch's 43.6.0 and both 43.7.0 builds report V8 15.0.245.31-electron.0 and Chrome 150.0.7871.250, which is presumably why V8 accepts the old cache (not traced).

With Equibop closed, moving Code Cache/wasm out of the way lets Discord load on 43.7.0; that launch writes a new one. The original report has the title updating to "(N) Discord | Friends" while the window stays black. Here the title never changed, so that may be a separate problem.

I can confirm that renaming/deleting ~/.config/equibop/sessionData/Code Cache/wasm/ has fixed the issue for me too. Persists between app restarts.

Yep, deleting the folder ~/.config/equibop/sessionData/Code Cache/wasm/ solved the issue for me after went back to the newer electron version. Although, I'm surprised that this problem is only now happening with the recent electron update.

@Creationsss seems to work and open fine, though I had already deleted the folder in question so I unfortunately cant test the new version against whatever was stale there specifically
