fix(execute_code): keep the error text of timeouts and disconnects - #1509
When the bridge loses the reply to an execute_code call (timeout, disconnect), the tool returned {"success": false, "message": null, "data": null}, with no indication of what went wrong. Transport errors arrive as MCPResponse(...).model_dump(), which always has a message key (set to None), so response.get("message", response.get("error", "")) never fell back to error, and error was not copied into the result.
Why it matters: an agent that sees a bare failure assumes its C# failed and rewrites working code, or re-runs a snippet that already took effect, while other tools (execute_menu_item, read_console) show "error": "TimeoutError", "hint": "retry" for the same failure. Over four weeks one project saw 63 of these, all timeouts or disconnects.

Changes Made
Server/src/services/tools/execute_code.py: message falls back to error when it is missing or None; error is passed through when present. The transport's hint: "retry" is deliberately not forwarded: a timed-out snippet may still be running in Unity, so advising a retry invites running its side effects twice. Successful responses keep their current shape.
Server/tests/test_execute_code.py: test_transport_error_with_null_message_keeps_error feeds the transport-error shape (message: None, error: "TimeoutError", hint: "retry") and checks the error text is kept and no hint is returned. The existing test_error_response_normalized omits the message key, which is why the bug passed.

Relates to #1508: this PR fixes the missing error text only. The issue's request for timeout_seconds and no re-send after a timeout on execute_code is out of scope here, so the issue should stay open.
Relates to #1503 (timeouts for custom tools; the issue asks for the same for execute_code)
Additional Notes
Unity EditMode/PlayMode and the package compile check are not applicable: the change is limited to the Python server; no C# files are touched. The tool's parameters are unchanged, so the generated tool reference does not change.
Transport errors arrive as MCPResponse(...).model_dump(), whose "message" is
None, so response.get("message", <error>) never fell back to the error and
the caller got a bare {"success": false, "message": null}. Fall back on a
falsy message and pass error/hint through.

Walkthrough
execute_code now uses the error value when the response message is missing or falsy. It also includes non-None error and hint fields in its result. A test covers a timeout response with a null message.

Result fields and regression test Server/src/services/tools/execute_code.py, Server/tests/test_execute_code.py
The result message falls back to the error value when the response message is falsy. The result includes non-None error and hint values. The test checks these fields for a timeout response.
After a timeout or disconnect, execute_code responses now advise clients to retry. The code may still be running in Unity, so a resend can repeat its side effects. Suppress the retry hint for execute and replay before merging.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The code change in Server/src/services/tools/execute_code.py touches only the result construction for the execute response. It changes the message fallback and passes through error and hint when present. Both changes address the bug in #1508. The tool parameters and schema are unchanged. The test file adds one regression test for the transport-error shape. This test supports the fix. No unrelated files or hunks were identified in the reviewed evidence. The test-file diff could not be read, so the check of that file relies on the head blob content.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Directly linked issue #1508 has two coding requirements. (1) Preserve the error text from transport failures. Met. In Server/src/services/tools/execute_code.py, message now resolves as response.get("message") or response.get("error") or "", and error and hint are copied when not None. Test test_transport_error_with_null_message_keeps_error covers the message: None shape. (2) The issue body asks that built-in execute_code gain a timeout_seconds parameter and the no-re-send-after-timeout behavior, as in open PR #1503 for custom tools. Not met. The head file has no timeout_seconds parameter and no retry-suppression logic. The PR objectives and description state that this PR does not implement this request, yet the PR says Fixes #1508, which would close the issue with this request open. Not verified: the test-file diff could not be read, so the new test was checked only through the head blob. Its content matches the PR description.
Resolution
Choose one. (a) Implement the timeout_seconds parameter for execute_code and the no-re-send-after-timeout behavior, with tests, in this PR. (b) Change the link so this PR does not close #1508 (for example, Relates to #1508 in place of Fixes #1508), and track the timeout and no-re-send request in a separate issue or in #1503. Option (b) also requires the PR description to state that the timeout request is out of scope.
Full details: Docstring Coverage
Explanation
Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff with cyclomatic complexity of at least 2. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 1 functions across 2 files.
Resolution
Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Do not forward the retry hint for execute and replay.
Transport failures from the plugin path return hint="retry". A disconnect does this directly, and a timeout does it through the generic exception handler. The PR now passes that hint to the client. A snippet can keep running in Unity after the transport reports failure. A client that resends the request can run the same side effects twice.
Keep the error text. Drop the hint for these actions:

Agreed that a retry hint is unsafe here: a timed-out snippet may still be running in Unity. Fixed in aef3da0, a bit more narrowly than suggested: execute_code now forwards only error and no hint for any action. Before this PR it forwarded no hint at all, so nothing is lost. The only other hint the transport sets, select_instance, is already explained by the error text and the instance list in data. The regression test now checks that hint is absent.
Also from the summary:
Linked issue: changed Fixes #1508 to Relates to #1508. The issue's timeout_seconds / no-re-send request is out of scope for this PR, so the issue stays open.
Docstring coverage: skipped. The tool is documented in its @mcp_for_unity_tool(description=...) and the module docstring, like the other tools in services/tools/.
