inspired by the IBM 7094 synthesized speech and music in 1961 (programmed by John Larry Kelly, Jr., Carol Lochbaum, and Max Mathews)
Fun Fact: This legendary recording directly inspired Arthur C. Clarke. He happened to be visiting Bell Labs during the 1961 demonstration. He was so struck by it that he later wrote it into the climax of 2001: A Space Odyssey, where the artificial intelligence HAL 9000 sings "Daisy Bell" as his cognitive functions are systematically powered down.
