Summary

  • A beta build (e.g. 0.16.1-beta.13) could not be moved onto the release channel. getUpdateChannel forced autoupdate:channel back to beta on every launch of a beta build, and the channel was read only when the Updater was constructed.
  • This fork never publishes beta.yml, so a beta build kept asking for a file that returns 404 and reported nothing new, even with a newer release on the feed.
  • Remove the forced revert (allowDowngrade = false already prevents downgrades) and re-read autoupdate:channel before every update check, so a settings change applies without a restart.

Testing

  • tsc --noEmit: 0 errors
  • vitest run: 107 passed
  • Not exercised in a running installer: needs a beta build. Manual check: on a beta build set autoupdate:channel to latest, use Check for Updates, and expect it to download the newest release.
  • Until a build with this fix is installed, a beta build needs one manual install of a release to get onto the latest channel.

A beta build forced autoupdate:channel back to "beta" on every launch, and
the channel was only read at startup. This fork never publishes beta.yml, so
a beta build could not reach a release through the updater.

Drop the forced revert (allowDowngrade = false already prevents downgrades)
and re-read the channel setting before each update check.
