Disclaimer: the code in this PR was written by Claude Opus.
With two monitors, a fullscreen window on one monitor pauses the wallpaper on both. I hit this on niri and Hyprland.
This PR adds a --fullscreen-pause-per-monitor flag. With it, only the monitor that has the fullscreen window pauses, and the others keep running. Without the flag, nothing changes.
With the flag, the second monitor keeps running on both niri and Hyprland. On niri I also tested videos, a video spanned over both monitors, fullscreen on both monitors, and moving a fullscreen window between monitors. All of those work.
It's Wayland only. I didn't test it on X11.
I'm running this on NixOS, built from the nixpkgs package pinned to b016d7d.
With several monitors, a fullscreen window on one of them paused the
wallpaper on all of them, because the Wayland fullscreen detector kept a
single global count and ignored output_enter/output_leave.
The detector now binds wl_output (v4, for names) on its own connection,
tracks which outputs each toplevel is on, and answers isFullscreenOn for
a single output. With the new flag, only covered outputs stop rendering;
the rest keep running. When every output is covered it falls back to the
existing global pause. A wallpaper spanned over several outputs pauses
only when all of them are covered, and playlists on a covered output hold
their timer unless updateOnPause is set.
Wayland only. Detectors that can't tell outputs apart (X11) ignore the
flag, so behavior there is unchanged.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The change adds the Wayland-only --fullscreen-pause-per-monitor option. When enabled and supported by the detector, fullscreen state is tracked by output. The application updates pause state, rendering, and playlist timing for affected displays.

The render setting defaults to disabled, and the command-line option enables it. The detector interface adds output-specific queries; the base detector reports global fullscreen state. The README documents the option.
The Wayland detector tracks toplevel-to-output associations, registers and removes outputs, and reports fullscreen state for a named output.

The video driver interface adds pending-event dispatch. The Wayland driver polls without waiting and removes viewports when compositor surfaces close or outputs are removed.
The render context pauses a wallpaper only when all its connected mapped displays are paused. The application tracks paused outputs, skips rendering for them, refreshes state when outputs resume, and adjusts playlist timing and pause state.

The opt-in mode has two disconnect edge cases: the application may remain running after the compositor disconnects, and a disconnected video wallpaper may resume playback. These warrant bounded follow-up but do not appear to block merging.

Window modes have a single "default" viewport that matches no output, so
with --fullscreen-pause-per-monitor the preview window never paused. Keep
the global pause there.
A wallpaper spanned over several displays kept its mapping to a display
that was unplugged. That display can never be covered, so the wallpaper
never paused when the remaining displays went fullscreen. Only connected
displays count now; a wallpaper with none keeps the old behavior.
With a video spanning A and B, fullscreen on A, and an unpaused wallpaper on C, disconnect B. The paused-output set does not change, so this guard skips setPause. The video continues playing even though its only connected display is covered. Recalculate when viewport membership changes, too. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Update the pause-state recalculation guard around setPause to account for
viewport membership changes as well as changes to the paused-output set.
Recalculate and apply pause state whenever either input changes, while
preserving the existing behavior when neither changes.

The pause state was only reapplied when the set of paused outputs changed.
Unplugging an unpaused monitor left that set alone, so a wallpaper spanned
over it kept running even when its remaining monitors were covered.
Handle wl_output removal in handleGlobalRemoved().
When Wayland removes an output global, remove the matching WaylandOutputViewport and rebuild WaylandOutput::m_viewports. handleGlobalRemoved() currently ignores the event. Only onLayerClose() erases the viewport and resets the output map. A removed output can therefore remain in getViewports(), so updatePausedOutputs() can retain its paused name and skip the promised disconnect recalculation. Coordinate this cleanup with onLayerClose() to avoid double deletion.

The registry's global_remove handler ignored outputs, so a viewport only
went away when the compositor closed its layer surface. Look the screen up
by its global name and free it the same way. The shared teardown now also
destroys a pending frame callback, releases the wl_output proxy and clears
the pointer focus, since each kept a pointer into the freed viewport.
…r outputs
While every output is paused, render() never dispatched the driver's
Wayland queue, so a monitor removed in the meantime stayed in the viewport
map and could get resumed and drawn to. Add VideoDriver::dispatchPendingEvents,
a non-blocking dispatch on Wayland, and call it before deciding which
outputs to resume, only in per-monitor mode.
The detector dropped removed outputs with wl_output_destroy, which leaves
the compositor's side alive until disconnect. Send release when the bound
version supports it.
If an output is removed while all outputs are paused, the new event dispatch triggers reconciliation. A wallpaper with no connected display then receives setPause(false). A disconnected video wallpaper can resume audio while the application remains paused. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Exit the paused loop after a failed Wayland read.
m_requestedExit alone does not stop the application. The main loop checks only keepRunning, and the paused branch checks closeRequested() only after it resumes. Set m_requestedExit when wl_display_read_events() fails, then consume closeRequested() in the paused branch.
if (perMonitor) {
m_videoDriver->dispatchPendingEvents ();
+ if (m_videoDriver->closeRequested ()) {+ this->m_context.state.general.keepRunning = false;+ }
}
This is a narrow stability issue and is minor in severity.
