DNS clients on Dell OS10, Mikrotik, OpenBSD, and VyOS

DNS server can run on dnsmasq, and DNS clients on IOS, EOS, and Linux-based platforms. It should be easy to add a few DNS client implementations, and the DNS server can run on (at least) Cisco IOS.

I can make routeros7 DNS server/client templates if wanted, OpenBSD would probably make do with a unbound config which allows for creating domains while allowing recursion vs nsd which is authoritative only.

I implemented the DNS clients on Junos, IOS XR, Nexus OS, and SR Linux. Doing it on SR OS (SR SIM) is too cumbersome (you have to configure the BOF data store). The remaining (more supported) platforms are now listed in the issue title. As we implement DNS clients for them, we'll remove them, and eventually close the issue.

As for DNS servers, it's too much hassle/noise (at least on Cisco IOS).
