Security Level: OWASP A03:2021 - Injection (CWE-22: Path Traversal)
Database path validation security protects DevStream against path traversal attacks by validating all database file paths before use. This implementation follows OWASP Input Validation Cheat Sheet guidelines and blocks malicious path manipulation attempts.
Attack: ../../etc/passwd
Impact: Unauthorized file system access outside project directory
Mitigation: Block .. sequences before canonicalization
Attack: /tmp/symlink → /etc/passwd
Impact: Bypass path restrictions via symlink resolution
Mitigation: Canonicalize paths with os.path.realpath(), validate resolved path
Attack: /tmp/malicious.db
Impact: Write database outside project directory
Mitigation: Whitelist validation (must be within project root)
Attack: data/../../../etc/passwd
Impact: Escape project directory after path normalization
Mitigation: Canonicalize and validate final path against project root

Coverage: Path traversal, symbolic links, arbitrary writes, extension validation
All attack scenarios properly blocked:
- ✅ Path traversal (
../../etc/passwd) - ✅ Arbitrary write (
/tmp/evil.db) - ✅ Invalid extension (
data/file.txt) - ✅ Symbolic link outside project
- ✅ Directory traversal via canonicalization
