Complete guide for setting up Intel AI PC development on Linux, including driver installation and AI software environment setup.
For a first-time Linux driver setup, run:
# From the repository root
cd Linux_Software_Installation
# Generate the static driver installer
./build-static-installer.sh --build-static
# Install the drivers
sudo ./setup-static-drivers.shOptional, if you want higher GitHub API limits:
export GITHUB_TOKEN=your_token_here
bash build-static-installer.sh --build-staticAfter the driver installation completes, reboot the machine before running setup-software.sh.
⚠️ CRITICAL: Install Drivers Before AI SoftwareYou must install Intel GPU and NPU drivers before installing any AI development software. The AI frameworks and tools require proper driver support to function correctly.
This directory contains scripts to set up Intel GPU and NPU drivers on Ubuntu 24.04 for AI PC platforms. The setup builds an installation script that represents the latest versions of the drivers that work together.
Available Scripts:
build-static-installer.sh: ⭐ Static installer builder (no GitHub token required)setup-static-drivers.sh: Generated static driver installation script (no API dependencies)Utilities/verify_connectivity.sh: Diagnostic tools for troubleshooting GitHub API connectivity issues
The builder provides intelligent setup with guided output:
Version Detection:
- Ubuntu 24.04.X: Automatically builds driver installation as needed
- Ubuntu 26.04.X: Skips driver installation (all drivers pre-included), directs to
setup-software.sh - Ubuntu 26.04.X Note:
setup-software.shalso installsintel-opencl-icdand ensures the current user is added to therenderandvideogroups. - Other versions: Shows warning but allows proceeding at user's risk
User-Friendly Interface:
- If
setup-static-drivers.shdoes not exist and you run without--build-static, the script shows a first-time setup banner with exact next commands - Use
--helpflag to see comprehensive usage documentation - The script checks required dependencies (
curl,jq) and installs missing ones automatically usingsudo apt install - Build mode output now includes clearer progress logs (step counters and matched asset filenames)
Note: Even though a GitHub token is optional, you may still be prompted for your sudo password on first run if
curl/jqneed installation.
No GitHub token required
# Navigate to the Linux Software Installation directory
